Best Picks from Day 2 of the NFL Draft

I know the draft is now complete and what a 3 day event it was, but there were too many notable picks to do a best picks days 2 and 3 that I'm splitting it into 2 articles. The first is the best picks of rounds 2 and 3 and the next will be of rounds 4-7. There is a ton of post draft content to come so be ready! Here we go.

Asante Samuel Jr. (CB, FSU) to the LA Chargers - Rd 2, 47th overall

The Chargers made one of the best picks of day 2 by selecting Asante Samuel Jr. the feisty corner out of Florida State. Son of NFL legend Asante Samuel, Samuel Jr. has a chance to be as good if not better. Despite being smaller for a corner, he brings the coverage skills and aggression of elite players at the position. The Chargers desperately needed help at the CB spot and for Samuel to fall all the way to them at 47 was a match made in heaven and a near perfect selection.

Kelvin Joseph  (CB, Kentucky) to the Dallas Cowboys - Rd 2, 44th overall

After a brutal turn of events in round 1 that saw the 2 elite CB prospects of the draft go the 2 picks before Dallas, the team rebounded in round 2 by selecting Kelvin Joseph. A lanky corner with great speed and ball skills, he could instantly step in as Dallas' best cornerback. If the Cowboys want to become playoff contenders again they needed to improve the secondary and this pick was a major step towards doing that.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (LB, Notre Dame) to the Cleveland Browns - Rd 2, 52nd overall

Cleveland started off the 2021 draft on a roll. After having one of the draft's best CBs in Greg Newsome fall to them near the end of round 1, another insane prospect was there for them in round 2. JOK, a player I mocked at 17 to the Raiders, somehow fell into the late second round and Cleveland said no more. They moved up and got him. What a pick. An easy first round talent at a position of need. JOK can line up all over the defense and will be a chess piece for the Browns to work into their defense that is already stacked with superstars.

Teven Jenkins (OT, Oklahoma State) to the Chicago Bears - Rd 2, 39th overall

The Bears had a dream first couple rounds. I don't think anyone saw a reality where they ended up with Justin Fields but that somehow happened and then they somehow got Fields a stud blindside protector the next day in Jenkins. What a steal this pick was. I had Jenkins as an easy first round talent, in my final mock I had him going as high as 15th overall to Detroit. Jenkins brings a nasty, mauling demeanor to the football field. He knows he's a beast in the trenches and plays like it. With Justin Fields as their QB of the future, the Bears find a way to make sure he stays protected as well.

Rondale Moore (WR, Purdue) to the Arizona Cardinals - Rd 2, 49th overall

The Cardinals had an amazing off-season, and they continued it with this draft pick here in the mid second round. Rondale Moore was one of the most polarizing players in the draft class. He is a human wrecking ball with the football in his hands, in the open field, good luck taking him down 1-on-1. The problem is he's undersized and has some dropping issues. The Cardinals offense is already so explosive with Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, Andy Isabella, and Christian Kirk, but now they add ANOTHER threat. This Cardinals team is starting to really have all the pieces.

Creed Humphrey (C, Oklahoma) to the Kansas City Chiefs - Rd 2, 63rd overall

The Chiefs stay winning. After already making an A+ move to get Orlando Brown Jr. from the Ravens, they got another first round caliber prospect despite not having a first round pick. Creed Humphrey might have been the best center in the class. The main goal of the Chiefs off-season has been to revamp the O-line that lost them the Super Bowl. With Humphrey falling into their laps at the bottom of round 2, they are set and have one of the best offensive lines in all of football.

Davis Mills (QB, Stanford) to the Houston Texans - Rd 3, 67th overall

Starting with Kyle Trask to Tampa bay with the last pick of round 2, the run on second tier QBs began and with Kellen Mond going to Minnesota one pick ahead of them, the Texans barely snagged the last decent QB left. With all the uncertainty surrounding Deshaun Watson this off-season, we don't know for sure if he will ever play football again in the NFL. Having a backup plan is huge. Mills is one of the best leaders in the draft class and I think could be the future of the Texans if Watson is either retired or eventually traded or cut. I love this pick.

Milton Williams (DT, Louisiana Tech) to the Philadelphia Eagles - Rd 3, 73rd overall

Anyone who knows me knows how high I was on Milton Williams coming into the draft, the Eagles got a stud with him in the mid third round. One of the most athletic DTs I've ever seen, Williams also has production to show for it. The Eagles need talent wherever they can get it and with Fletcher Cox already there in Philly, there would be no greater mentor to help Williams become a perennial pro bowler that I think he has a chance to be.

Anthony Schwartz (WR, Auburn) to the Cleveland Browns - Rd 3, 91st overall

I talked about how well the Browns did earlier when I praised their pick of JOK, but it got even better the next round. Anthony Schwartz was an amazing draft pick. The Browns have one of the most talent stacked rosters in the NFL but one of their few spots of weakness was a 3rd WR. They just found him. Aside from their stud WR duo of OBJ and Juice Landry, Rashard Higgins found himself needing to make a play in a big moment far too many times. Anthony Schwartz can fill that role now. He is probably the fastest player in the entire draft class but isn't one of those 5'9 only speed guys. He's 6'0 and also has good hands. The Browns offense is going to be lethal again this year with the addition of Schwartz.

Quinn Meinerz (C/OG, Wisconsin-Whitewater) to the Denver Broncos - Rd 3, 98th overall

Meinerz was probably my favorite player in the entire draft. I was shocked when he fell almost to the 4th round I thought he easily was an early second round guy. If you don't know his story, I won't get too into it but he played for a D3 school and had to make his name for himself posting crazy workout videos and then he absolutely dominated the Senior Bowl at the end of this season. The Broncos got such a steal here. He should start right away and has a chance to become an elite run blocker so quickly. The Broncos roster is really shaping up and I believe this is the steal of the draft if Denver gives him the playing time he deserves.
