Best Picks from Day 3 of NFL Draft

After recapping the best picks/steals from day 2 of the draft, we move to the same focus but for day 3. There will be a few more players on this list due to it being 4 rounds instead of 2 but there were a handful of major steals.

Michael Carter (RB, North Carolina) to the New York Jets - Rd 4, 107th overall

The Jets absolutely killed the first couple rounds of the draft and it clearly continued to the later rounds as well as the team was able to grab Michael Carter near the top of the fourth round. What a steal and fit. Carter was an easy second round talent, he has insane burst and top end speed for the RB position. He can blow through holes in an instant. RB was a MASSIVE need for the Jets heading into the draft and they just got a guy who can start from day 1 and handle the workload. What a steal for the Jets.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR, USC) to the Detroit Lions - Rd 4, 112th overall

Another easy second/third round talent falling to the fourth round, the Lions snagged Amon-Ra St. Brown here. St. Brown is a stud WR. He has the tools and has shown the production in college to prove he someday can be a team's no. 1 WR in the NFL. Coming into Detroit who lost Kenny Golladay AND Marvin Jones, he might just walk into the top slot on the team. The Lions needed a receiver so badly and got crazy luck that a second round talent like St. Brown fell to them in the 4th round. This kid could be in the running for offensive rookie of the year.

Tre Brown (CB, Oklahoma) to the Seattle Seahawks - Rd 4, 137th overall

With just 3 picks in this year's NFL draft (lowest in the league), the Seahawks still found a way to absolutely ace their draft class. A big part in that was selecting Tre Brown here at 137. Brown is such an underrated prospect. One of the best man coverage corners in the class, Brown held receivers to the lowest rating in college football in man coverage according to PFF. The knock on him is he's an outside corner but is only about 5'9-5'10. He will have a chance to compete for a starting job in Seattle right away and could be a stud in his first year. GM John Schneider said it best, "if Brown was 6'1-6'2, he would have been a top 10 pick in this draft."

Brevin Jordan (TE, Miami) to the Houston Texas - Rd 5, 147th overall

This might have been the best value pick in the entire draft. I thought for sure Brevin Jordan would be a player taken in the second round. He is an elite athlete for the tight end position. He has Darren Waller like speed and could function as a big receiver on the outside or slot for certain teams. Somehow, Jordan fell to the 5th round where the Texans got an absolute steal. In an offense with little firepower, Jordan gives Texans fans something small to be excited about. Really great pick for Houston, he was my TE3 in the class.

Shaun Wade (CB, Ohio State) to the Baltimore Ravens - Rd 5, 160th overall

The Ravens seem to always end up with some of the biggest names in every draft class and they continued that trend this year. Shaun Wade has first round talent but was never able to produce like it when it mattered at Ohio State. After a really promising season in 2019 where the tall Wade played in the slot for OSU, he was moved to the boundary in 2020 and really struggled. If he can develop into an outside corner, it could be a massive snag for Baltimore. If not, they still landed themselves an exceptional slot cornerback. I like this pick a lot for rd 5, low risk/high reward.

Cameron McGrone (LB, Michigan) to the New England Patriots - Rd 5, 177th overall

The Pats have had an off-season unlike any we've seen under Bill Belichick before. The Pats were hyper aggressive if free agency and then in the early rounds of the draft went for some of the top players unlike past years where they usually reach on players that Bill Belichick likes. McGrone in the 5th round was a crazy steal. A second round talent, McGrone is a rangy linebacker with great speed to develop into a lurker in the middle of a defense. Learning from the best in Foxboro, the Patriots know they got a steal here because of what they can develop McGrone into.

Cornell Powell (WR, Clemson) to the Kansas City Chiefs - Rd 5, 181st overall

Who keeps letting the Chiefs find all of this value in the later rounds. Cornell Powell was a criminally underrated wideout going into this draft but now that he is headed to KC to catch passes from Patrick Mahomes, people are finally starting to give Powell praise for how good he is. In an offense that features so many elite receiving threats, Powell will be an afterthought to opposing defenses where he will THRIVE. He is an elite route runner for this spot in the draft and teams are going to really regret letting him fall to the Chiefs.

Deonte Brown (OG, Alabama) to the Carolina Panthers - Rd 6, 193rd overall

I think the Panthers might have had the best draft of any team in the league. They not only got top notch talent in the early rounds but then they got early round projected guys in the late rounds. Deonte Brown is an example of that. I thought Brown would be a second or third round pick. A monster of a man at his weight, Brown is a really great run blocker due to his wide body that is so hard to move. The Panthers could plug him in day 1 at guard or maybe even center and feel good about it.

Stone Forsythe (OT, Florida) to the Seattle Seahawks - Rd 6, 208th overall

Again, I was talking about how well the Seahawks did with just 3 draft picks and this is another reason why. This is one of the greatest value picks of the draft. Forsythe was a 3rd round guy for sure and somehow he fell all the way to round 6. Forsythe is going to be an amazing edge protector in the future for Seattle. Considered an elite pass blocker, his run blocking isn't great, but tackles being good at pass pro is a lot more important. Forsythe is also a towering 6'8 and will be so hard to get around just like he was last year at Florida only allowing 2 sacks all season for one of the best teams in the country. I'm not sure if he will play a ton year 1 but he is definitely going to be one of Seattle's tackles of the future.

Demetric Felton (RB/WR, UCLA) to the Cleveland Browns - Rd 6, 211th overall

Other than maybe Carolina, Cleveland had possibly the best draft out of anyone. Felton is such a steal in round 6. I was so shocked he was still available I thought for sure he wouldn't make it past round 3 due to his Curtis Samuel like versatility. Felton excelled playing both RB and WR at UCLA and really did remind me of Samuel. The Browns are so stacked at every spot and adding a dynamic weapon like Felton to sub in and out is just unfair. The Browns are going to be really good this year.

Tay Gowan (CB, UCF) to the Arizona Cardinals - Rd 6, 223rd overall

Another player I was shocked to see fall to round 6 was Gowan. Gowan has the ideal measurements that NFL teams search far and wide for in a CB for the modern day NFL. At 6'1 with pretty good speed, Gowan checks all the boxes. He is really good in press coverage which is something that should excite Cardinal fans especially with the fact that he is so tall and fast. If Gowan can run with the likes of DK Metcalf or Robert Woods in the division, the Cardinals are going to have a major steal on their hands. A 4th round talent in the 6th round to a CB needy team.

Trey Smith (OG, Tennessee) to the Kansas City Chiefs - Rd 6, 226th overall

As we talked about earlier with the Chiefs and their great selection of Cornell Powell, the rich get richer. The Chiefs really are set at every position except the O-line but after a super successful off-season, now they even look set at the o-line. Trey Smith is a super intriguing add to the team. While their starting group is likely figured out now, Smith could be a wildcard player that could win a starting role in camp. A 5 star HS recruit and in the past considered a first round lock, Smith suffered from heart problems and blood clots during his time at Tennessee but fought through it and played again. He is a huge man at guard and also has experience playing tackle. If he turns out to be able to play his entire career without any life threatening medical problems, this pick is the steal of the draft. The Chiefs killed it as usual.

We will have more post-draft content coming soon!
