Week 7 NFL Players of the Week: Rookie of the Decade?

After a week where we felt that options for these awards were slim, suddenly there were tons of options for each spot and we now feel bad not being able to give multiple deserving players the awards. Let's get right into them.

OFFENSIVE Player of the Week: Ja'Marr Chase, Wide Receiver, Cincinnati Bengals

Statline: 8 receptions, 201 yards, 1 TD receiving

The first rookie of the season to take home an overall player of the week award. It makes damn sense that it's Ja'Marr Chase of all players. He has been beyond unbelievable through the first 7 games of his NFL career and this was by far his best performance yet. In one of the biggest games in recent memory for the Bengals, with first place in the AFC North on the line, Chase was the brightest star on the field. To the tune of 201 yards, Chase torched the Ravens secondary from the opening kick. Marlon Humphrey was no match for the all-world rookie and even admitted that it was an awful game for himself afterwards. He's a pro bowl corner. Chase destroyed him. 201 yards is the 2nd most in a single game receiving yardage wise by any player this season only behind the 206 yards that Davante Adams posted in week 5. We keep saying this, but Burrow to Chase is becoming the hottest QB/WR combo in the NFL. What we are seeing from Chase is unprecedented. He is on pace right now to absolutely SHATTER the single season rookie receiving yardage record which was set by Justin Jefferson just last season (also a former LSU teammate of his). As a rookie, Chase might already be the best player on the Bengals and could already be a top 5 WR in the league this quickly. I can't believe we are in this place right now with the kid who was starting to be labeled a bust before he ever even took a single regular season snap. Ja'Marr Chase has won rookie of the week before, and now he ascends to his first OPOTW of the week. I'm sure there are more to come as well.
// Last Week's Winner: Derrick Henry (RB, Titans)

DEFENSIVE Player of the Week: Demario Davis, Linebacker, New Orleans Saints

Statline: 10 total tackles (4 for loss), 3 QB hits, 2 sacks, 1 pass deflection

One of the best players in the league to be rarely talked about, Demario Davis is finally getting some of the respect he deserves as he wins his first DPOTW for us. In a 13-10 win against Seattle on Monday night, every play was crucial. It was a low scoring, slow, defensive kind of game, and Davis was the best defensive player on the field. He absolutely stuffed the stat sheet and his presence was felt even greater than that. 10 total tackles alone for a star LB is an elite game, but he did much more than that. 4 of his tackles were for loss which is absolutely huge, especially considering Seattle only ran the ball really. He was the guy making them punt because they couldn't pick up offensive yardage. He also had 2 CRUCIAL 4th quarter sacks including one on the final offensive drive of the game for Seattle which essentially secured the win for New Orleans. He was almost singlehandedly the reason that Pete Carroll refused to throw the ball out of fear that Davis would disrupt the play and cause a Geno Smith turnover. You can't play scared if you play to win in the NFL, and Davis forced Seattle to do just that.
// Last Week's Winner: TJ Watt (DE, Steelers)

SPECIAL TEAMS Player of the Week: Rigoberto Sanchez, Punter, Indianapolis Colts

Statline: 6 punts (average 45.5 yards per), 2 inside 20, 79 yard long

As far as a week for special teamers goes, this was about the most barren one for options. Sanchez had a great game as he was really the only notable special teamer of the week. In a grind it out game with the Niners on SNF, the Colts needed a win, and Sanchez was a major reason they won. He punted it 6 times which is quite a lot and had a really good average of 45.5 yards per punt. He also got 2 down within the 20 and a BOOMING 79 yard long punt. That is wild. Out of a bad week for ST, Sanchez was far and away the best player from this part of football. The first punter of the year to win our STPOTW!
// Last Week's Winner: Matthew Wright (K, Jaguars)

ROOKIE of the Week: Ja'Marr Chase, Wide Receiver, Cincinnati Bengals

Won OPOTW as well! Read up above. The first "double" winner of the season!

TEAM of the Week: Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) beat Baltimore Ravens (5-2) | Final Score: 41-17 Bengals

Feels like a lot of orange and black this week! The Bengals (led by Ja'Marr Chase ^) illustrated potentially the most shocking blowout of the season so far. In a game for first place in the AFC North, the Ravens were heavy favorites over the upstart Bengals. It was close in the first half but the Bengals pulled away big time in the second and won by 24 points! The Ravens had been potentially the hottest team in the league since starting out 0-1 and winning 5 straight, but the Bengals came in with no fear and put the Ravens to sleep. Joe Burrow is really coming into his own. He is looking like an easy top 10 QB who is close to gaining "elite" status. The Bengals defense which was so bad last season has made an impressive turnaround as well and now they look like a strongpoint on this contending team. The Bengals are one of the most likable and exciting teams in the sport right now and this win puts them in sole first place of the AFC North. There is a lot of season left to go, but these Bengals might just win one of the best divisions in football.
// Last Week's Winner: Tennessee Titans

Honorable Mentions:
-Falcons TE Kyle Pitts
-Browns RB D'Ernest Johnson
-Saints RB Alvin Kamara
-Falcons LB Deion Jones
-Raiders DE Yannick Ngakoue
