JKNFLFOOTBALL Top 100 Players for 2022: 50-31
It's only the best of the best from here. We've officially reached the top half of my annual top 100 rankings and things start to get really interesting from here on out. Again, this list isn't a ranking purely off of their 2021 performances but also a projection for 2022. That has to be kept in mind when some guys might get put above others. The top 50 is about to start out with a bang, but he's a prime example of everything being taken into account. Today we will cover players 50-31!
50. Deebo Samuel, Wide Receiver, San Francisco 49ers | LAST YEAR: N/A |
2021 stats: 77 receptions for 1,405 yards, 6 TDs receiving | 59 carries for 365 yards, 8 TDs rushing
In his first fully healthy pro season, Deebo Samuel showed the world why the Niners believed in him so much. Samuel went from a guy thought of as a 'promising young player' to a First Team All-Pro. Deebo simply is a weapon. There shouldn't be a position tag next to his name. And that kind of play style fit perfectly with one of the greatest offensive minds in our game in 49er HC Kyle Shannahan who was able scheme Samuel all around the offense all season long to get the very most out of him. Samuel was top 5 in receiving yards in all of football, thanks to some huge catch and runs that would seemingly happen every single week. He added another 360 yards and EIGHT more scores on the ground. Just the definition of versatility. So why is he somewhat low? Samuel and the Niners are having issues. Following such an elite season, Deebo obviously wanted to get paid like no other due to his rare skillset, but the Niners were not willing to meet those demands which caused Samuel to come out and say he wants to be used only as a receiver from here on out if not being paid extra due to the extra he brings to the table. He then requested a trade. While no trade or new deal has come in the following months since all of this coming out, something has to give eventually. Maybe he will get that deal or maybe he'll be moved. The uncertainty of Samuel's future causes him to be at the direct half-point of this list, but if he is able to play out a full season in 2022, expect him to rise into the top 20 in 2023.49. Terry McLaurin, Wide Receiver, Washington Commanders | LAST YEAR: #74 |
2021 stats: 77 receptions for 1,035 yards, 5 TDs receiving
Back-to-back 2019 draft wideouts surface on the list. Terry McLaurin was another one of the many great wideouts from the class seeking a new deal this off-season, unlike Samuel though, he actually has received his now. Earlier this week, McLaurin signed his second pro contract, a 3-year deal worth about $23 million a year. Quite the hefty pricetag for the young stud. Expectations were nothing crazy for McLaurin in Washington as he entered the league as a third round pick, but he has easily surpassed all of them as many view him now as a top flight pass catcher in all of the sport. In his third pro season, McLaurin continued doing his thing. He recorded his second straight 1,000 yard season despite playing with backup level QB play all year long. The thing that makes 'Scary Terry' just so special is his ability to thrive with any QB and pretty much any throw. His signature skill is being able to come down with virtually any catch, no matter the toughness, if it's in his area. He truly might be the best jump ball receiver in the game outside of maybe like DHop and Mike Williams despite being just 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. 2022 carries a lot of promise for McLaurin. They have a new QB1 in Carson Wentz who is great at getting the ball down-field to his top guy. While many are low on Wentz, I think he is set to succeed in Washington and I think McLaurin is in line for his best season yet. After debuting at #74 on the list last year, Terry rises 20+ spots to #49 heading into 2022!
48. Marlon Humphrey, Cornerback, Baltimore Ravens | LAST YEAR: #38 |
2021 stats: 58 total tackles, 1 INT, 1 forced fumble, 13 pass deflections (12 games played, due to injury)
Following an unreal 2020 season where I had Humphrey ranked inside the top 40, 2021 was a bit different for Marlon and the Ravens. The Ravens were not the elite team we know they to be as they fell victim to a major injury bug across the team that saw pretty much every starter they had deal with some kind of ailment throughout the season. While Humphrey only missed 5 games which isn't as bad as some of his teammates' injuries, it was still a notable amount to miss and then recover from even when he was playing in games. One of the most aggressive and in your face CBs in the league, we saw that at times still from 44 this season, but we also saw him get torched a few more times than we are used to. He also didn't have the sheer knack for stripping footballs in 2021 that he did in 2020 (when he ripped EIGHT balls out). Still, despite injury and inconsistency at times, we all know Humphrey is one of the elite young corners in our game and with a healthy 2022 season, should be set to ball out once again!
47. Trey Hendrickson, Edge Rusher, Cincinnati Bengals | LAST YEAR: N/A |
2021 stats: 34 total tackles, 14 sacks, 3 forced fumbles | 3.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble in playoffs
After breaking out seemingly out of nowhere in 2020, Hendrickson signed a mega-deal with the Bengals to build on it. I for one was skeptical on a small market team throwing big money at a one-year wonder player. I didn't know if Hendrickson would be able to replicate that success that he saw in 2020 on a seemingly worse team. This has to be one of the times I was most wrong on a player and team. Trey and the Bengals proved me wrong and shocked the world as they became the league's most improved team and went all the way to the Super Bowl behind Hendrickson's second straight 13+ sack season. What a year it was specifically for Hendrickson, who I believe was by far and away the best player on that defense that was really good on the way to the Super Bowl. Hendrickson simply was a monster off the edge. Think about this. Hendrickson played in 16 of the Bengals 17 regular season games. In 14 of those games he had at least 1 sack. That is downright insane. He didn't have the most sacks in the league, but he may have been the most consistent edge threat in the sport (excluding probably the DPOY TJ Watt). Hendrickson added 3 forced fumbles as well and then continued his streak into the playoffs where he recorded another 3.5 sacks and an FF. What a season for Hendrickson as he's quickly become one of the best defensive players in the league. I can't wait to see what kind of streak he continue in 2022! Trey Hendrickson debuts inside the top 50.46. Tristan Wirfs, Offensive Tackle, Tampa Bay Buccaneers | LAST YEAR: #68 |
2021 stats: 1,182 snaps played, 3 penalties, 2 sacks allowed, 84.6 PFF grade
Tristan Wirfs has had quite the start to his NFL career. A first round pick in 2020 and a day one starter at tackle for Tom Brady who went on to win the Super Bowl in his rookie year. 2021 was arguably an even better year for Wirfs than his storybook inaugural season. While Wirfs was probably the best rookie OL in 2020, he graduated to being consider one of the best OL in the entire NFL. Wirfs achieved Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro honors this season following a year in which he gave up just 2 sacks on 44 year old Tom Brady. Brady had one of the best seasons of his entire storied career as he led the league in TD passes and finished second in MVP voting. Wirfs played a MAJOR part in that. Every year that Brady has had a stout O-line and an elite tackle to trust, he and his teams have seen major success. Wirfs has been that rock of consistency in Tampa for Brady over the past two seasons. At such an early stage in his career, Wirfs is already considered one of the best of the best at an extremely tough position. Entering his age 23/24 season, Tristan Wirfs will look to continue showing he is amongst the best tackles in football and will try and contend with Trent Williams for the honor of being considered THE best tackle in the game. He rose 22 spots since last season, will he be able to do that again a year from today?45. Budda Baker, Safety, Arizona Cardinals | LAST YEAR: #39 |
2021 stats: 98 total tackles, 3 INTs, 2 sacks, 7 pass deflections
Speaking of First Team All-Pros, that's what Budda Baker was one season ago. After his breakout season last year, Baker came back down to earth a little in 2021, while still achieving Second Team All-Pro honors. The top 3 safety was a huge cog in the Cardinals amazing undefeated start to the season that finally started to crumble around the mid-season mark. Budda Baker is truly one of those safeties that has it all. He is one of the best tacklers in football period as he went three straight seasons with 100+ tackles and was just shy this season with 98. You don't see that consistent high tackling in a DB much these days, but with Baker you do. Even with all of that tackling, Baker is an elite coverage safety. He picked off three passes and deflected 7 more this season. It is so hard to go deep on the Cardinals because he is so good at lurking in the middle of the back-end and making it hard to read which route is actually going to stay open once the ball comes out of the QB's hands. After two straight All-Pro caliber seasons, Baker remains one of the best of the best in terms of DBs in the NFL and stays easily inside the top 50 heading into 2022!
44. Alvin Kamara, Running Back, New Orleans Saints | LAST YEAR: #26 |
2021 stats: 240 carries for 898 yards, 4 TDs rushing | 47 receptions for 439 yards, 5 TDs receiving (missed 4 games due to injury)
It's a weird time to rank Alvin Kamara. Since stepping foot on an NFL football field, Kamara has been one of the best RBs in the sport. His dynamic dual threat ability as an elite runner AND receiver is hard to overlook and he is one of the most dangerous players in the game. Still, he is coming off of his most up and down season as a pro yet (though looking at the numbers it was still elite) but he also has a 6 game suspension to deal with to begin this upcoming season. We all know his talent and how he is one of only a handful of guys who can truly TAKE OVER a game. Look at the game vs Seattle in which he had 180 scrimmage yards and a TD or late in the season when he rushed for 150 on the ground alone on Atlanta. Despite his upcoming suspension, we know that when Kamara is on the field, he is among the best of the best. If he wasn't suspended at all he'd likely be back within the top 30. I see the Saints going back to the playoffs this season with Kamara as a huge reason for why once he's back!
43. Kyler Murray, Quarterback, Arizona Cardinals | LAST YEAR: #41 |
2021 stats: 3,787 yards, 24 TDs, 10 INTs passing | 88 carries for 423 yards, 5 TDs rushing (14 games played, due to injury)
Despite being the seemingly runaway MVP favorite through the first half of the NFL season, Kyler Murray and his Cardinals crashed back down to earth in the second half as he finds himself at an almost identical ranking to a season ago. The 24 year old QB is something special. We've known it since he was drafted #1 overall and went on to win rookie of the year. The league is shifting towards mobile QBs, but Murray might be THE most mobile QB we've ever seen (aside from maybe Mike Vick/Lamar Jackson). I've never seen a player, all positions included, that have faster feet than Murray. When he scrambles his feet are just on fire and he's so evasive and tough to tackle. The thing that sets Murray apart from some of the other most mobile QBs in the league is his arm. While there are moments of bad accuracy and bad reads, Murray has one of the biggest arms in all of football. This dangerous combination of speed and arm makes him one of the hardest QBs to gameplan for in the sport. If Murray never went down with injury, whose to say he wouldn't have won MVP after all. At just 24, Murray is clearly just approaching his prime and is set for potentially his best pro season yet as the team added his former college top target Marquise Brown in the off-season. While I wouldn't bank on it for sure, there's a very high chance Murray could be the league MVP when it is all said and done after the 2022 season. Barring another injury, Murray should finally rise out of the 40s in a year from now!
42. Zack Martin, Offensive Guard, Dallas Cowboys | LAST YEAR: #42 |
2021 stats: 1,101 snaps played, 2 penalties, 1 sack allowed, 93.9 PFF grade
What are the odds?! When I went through and made my rankings for the 2022 top 100, I didn't refer to last year's list but when I sat down to write this for Martin, turns out he is in the exact same spot as he was a year ago! Funny. Opposing D-lineman do not think it's funny to face Martin. The 31 year old Guard has long been one of the best interior O-lineman in the sport and likely will go on to the Hall of Fame when he is all done. It is so hard to distinguish O-lineman from one another because if we are being honest, no one really watches them during the game. However, when you look at the numbers, you realize just how elite Martin really is, and how justified such a high ranking on the top 100 is for him! In over 1,100 snaps, Martin allowed just ONE sack. Doing some math, that is .09%. Just one in a thousand. Crazy. Truly insane if you ask me. In that large amount of snaps, Martin only committed two penalties as well which is arguably even more impressive given the amount of holds the refs like to call these days. All of this is further solidified with an unheard of 94 PFF grade which was FOURTH in the ENTIRE NFL. According to PFF, Martin was the NFL's FOURTH best player in all of the sport. While you have to take their ideas with a grain of salt sometimes, it is still quite a testament to how good Martin really is. Expect another All-World 2022 season from him.
41. AJ Terrell, Cornerback, Atlanta Falcons | LAST YEAR: N/A |
2021 stats: 81 total tackles, 3 INTs, 16 pass deflections, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 47.5 passer rating allowed (league low)
After an under the radar 2020 rookie season, AJ Terrell burst onto everyone's radar in 2021. The former first round pick suddenly became one of, if not the best, corner in the league in just two pro seasons. The switch simply just flipped. In 2021, Terrell was impossible to throw at. He picked off 3 passes along with breaking up 16 more. The real impressive numbers come in more advanced stats. Terrell allowed the lowest passer rating in the league when targeted at just 47.5! He also had 13 games in which he didn't allow more than 20 yards. As a result of this elite, breakout season, Terrell made NFL's All-Pro Second Team. Based on the 2021 season alone, one could say there was no better corner. I would be fully with that. This list is based on 2021 but also projections for 2022, so I didn't feel comfortable having him over certain bonafide stars like Jalen Ramsey...yet. The Falcons have one of the bleakest team outlooks overall in the league right now, but Terrell gives them a foundational piece on the defensive side of the ball to build around. It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find elite, dare I say SHUTDOWN, corners in today's NFL, but Atlanta has done it, if nothing else. If he can build on this elite season with another great year, he will be routinely talked about as one of the best players in the entire sport come this time a year from now. From unranked to #41, not too shabby.
40. DK Metcalf, Wide Receiver, Seattle Seahawks | LAST YEAR: #32 |
2021 stats: 75 receptions for 967 yards, 12 TDs receiving
We all knew Seattle got a steal when they somehow snagged DK Metcalf with the final pick of the second round three years ago, what we didn't know is just how huge of a steal he would wind up being. Three years into his pro career, Metcalf has showed everyone that he probably should have been a top 5 pick. His 3,170 yards and 29 TDs receiving through his first three years are up there amongst some of the best WRs to ever play the game. I'm talking guys like Randy Moss and Jerry Rice. While he fell back down a bit this season (from his 1,300 yard/10 TD 2020 season), Metcalf still did quite well for himself. He totaled nearly his second-straight 1,000 yard season with 967 yards but posted a career high in TDs with a whopping 12. At 6'4, 230 pounds with 4.3 speed, it is impossible to go toe-to-toe with him while also impossible to size him up in the redzone. You could blame the dip in production to playing much of the season with a bad Geno Smith and then a severely banged up Russell Wilson. That being said, he enters 2022 with some uncertainty. For the first time in his career, he will not being playing with a superstar QB. Geno Smith and Drew Lock appear to be the two men who will duke it out for the starting job in the PNW and Metcalf will have to rise above and continue to prove he is one of the best WRs in the NFL. After coming into the league as a late second round pick, Metcalf is now one of the best WRs in the game, and for the first time in his career this season, he will be the one asked to lead the offense, not Russell Wilson.
39. Cameron Heyward, Defensive Tackle, Pittsburgh Steelers | LAST YEAR: N/A |
2021 stats: 89 total tackles, 10 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 9 pass deflections, 13 stuffs
After a down 2020 season, it looked like one of the longtime great DTs in the NFL could be on his last legs. Then we saw 2021. Heyward had (arguably) the best season of his 11 year career during his age 32/33 season in 2021. When talking about other DTs who are on this list earlier, I have mentioned over and over again how rare it is to have an exceptional rusher from that position. Heyward is one of the very few who rushes the passer at an elite level as a DT. His 10 sacks were second most among all DTs (only behind Aaron Donald, the GOAT). With TJ Watt already in the fold off the edge, teams simply couldn't gameplan for this Steeler rush attack with another double digit sacker coming from the middle of the line. Heyward and Watt constantly just exploded the pocket within seconds which threw QBs into fits. Heyward wasn't even just a rusher, he was elite in the run game and had a 6th sense for jumping up and batting away passes (9 PDs). For his elite comeback season, Heyward was named First-Team All Pro for the third time in his decorated career. As he enters his 12th season, I have no reason to believe he will slow down now after how good he just was. He's an ageless wonder.
38. Lamar Jackson, Quarterback, Baltimore Ravens | LAST YEAR: #31 |
2021 stats: 2,882 yards, 16 TDs, 13 INTs passing | 133 carries for 767 yards, 2 TDs rushing (12 games played, due to injury)
Before a slew of injuries derailed he and the Ravens' season, Lamar Jackson was back on his MVP pace. Through 5 weeks of the season, Jackson was in a head-to-head battle with Kyler Murray for the early season MVP favorite. Then a series of injuries occurred which caused Jackson to miss 5 weeks of the season and never really get fully healthy or in rhythm again. The Ravens missed the playoffs for what feels like the first time in forever. That was just one unlucky season. Jackson AND his team will be back in 2022. Lamar is fully healthy now and looking shredded on social media right now. One of the most unique QBs we've ever seen in NFL history is going to be right back on the prowl for another MVP in 2022. While his numbers from when he did play in 2021 are nothing great, Jackson is still one of the best QBs in the sport. There is simply no one like him when it comes to running the ball from the QB position. Kyler Murray might be harder to catch and Jalen Hurts might be a better TD scorer, but there is no better all-around scrambler than Jackson, maybe in the history of the game. The reason I'm not worried at all about Jackson heading into 2022 is because of his week 5 game against the Colts. Jackson torched Indy's top 5 ranked D for 440 yards and 4 TDs through the air and then gashed them on the ground for another 62 yards in a come from behind OT win. When he is healthy, boy he is a problem. If he's fully healthy in 2022, I could see him finding his way back into the top 10 come next year, and potentially another MVP award...
37. Chris Jones, Defensive Tackle, Kansas City Chiefs | LAST YEAR: #40 |
2021 stats: 27 total tackles, 9 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 5 pass deflections (14 games played, due to injury)
While Cameron Heyward (#39 on our list) may have been slightly better in 2021, again, this list is both based off of last season and projection for this season. We believe Chris Jones is the better football player and will be better in 2022. The 28 year old DT for the Chiefs is one of the most underrated players in the sport. Elite pass rushers might be the most sought after players in the game aside from the QB position. A 10+ sack season from anyone will have more than half of the league interested. I sound like a broken record, but you can't find that consistent level of production from a DT at all in the NFL. There are just a few guys at that spot who year after year can put up sack numbers. Pretty much all of those rare guys are on this top 100 list. Chris Jones might be the BEST interior sacker aside from Aaron Donald that we have. Despite missing 3 games, Jones easily tallied up 9 sacks and could have been near the 12+ mark had he been fully healthy. While the Chiefs may lack pressure off the edge, they make up for it by relying on Jones in the middle. The way he makes guards look absolutely silly by overpowering them is a marvel to watch. Jones hasn't had a fully healthy season since 2018, and do you know what his sack total was that year? 15.5! That is straight up mental for ANYONE, let alone a DT. The Chiefs upgraded their defense as a whole this off-season, and Jones will be a year deeper into his prime. I think he is set up for a 2018 level season which would have him right in the midst of the conversation for DPOY!
36. George Kittle, Tight End, San Francisco 49ers | LAST YEAR: #19 |
2021 stats: 71 receptions for 910 yards, 6 TDs receiving (14 games played, due to injury)
After All-World 2018 and 2019 seasons, George Kittle has been talked about among the best of the best in the entire NFL, regardless of position. 2020 was a year mostly lost to injury for him and 2021 was good but nothing CRAZY. I think this is the year where Kittle will get back to that 1,200+ yards and nearly 10 TD form. The QB situation was somewhat questionable for SF in 2021 but I think Trey Lance should be the starter from day 1 on this year and he will probably be a lot better and more ready to go this time around. Even when Kittle doesn't have the ball in his hands and is breaking tackles and stiff arming DBs to the ground, he is making a major impact. There is not a better blocking tight end in the sport than him. He is NASTY. He doesn't take a single play off in that regard and is always looking to maul someone, whether it be from the snap or in the second level when a back is flying through. The Niners' zone run offense is able to work so well because of Kittle being the blocker that he is. I also want to rephrase what I said earlier. Kittle did not have a down year this year by any means. He just didn't put up CRAZY numbers. Late in the year Kittle had a two game stretch where he caught 22 passes for over 300 yards and 3 TDs. Those games we saw him right back in his usual form where he is simply impossible to bring down in the open field. Entering his age 28 season, Kittle is in the midst of what promises to be a lengthy prime and I think with stability at QB and health in 2022, he has a good shot of rising back into the top 20 like he was a year ago.
35. Dalvin Cook, Running Back, Minnesota Vikings | LAST YEAR: #18 |
2021 stats: 249 carries for 1,159 yards, 6 TDs (13 games played, due to injury)
George Kittle and then Dalvin Cook right in a row on the list, just like a year ago (just different spots)! Dalvin Cook had his best pro season in 2020 and followed it up with a pretty similarly elite 2021 season. F0r the second straight season, Cook was in the MVP conversation from the RB position which is quite rare and quite impressive. The Vikings were nothing special again, but that was not to the fault of Cook, who did everything he possibly could to win them games. Late in the season Cook ran for 205 yards against one of the best defenses in the league in the Steelers for the Vikings to win the game. Cook was questionable to play in that game and even played with a harness on. He still did that. It is simply impossible to stop Cook when he gets rolling. He isn't the biggest or fastest, but he is nearly the most elusive player you will find. The jump cuts and quick decisions he makes on a down-to-down basis is something of beauty. Even missing 4 games, Cook still racked up nearly 1,200 rushing yards (5th most in the league) and 6 TDs. When healthy, there is no denying the production of Dalvin Cook. In 2022, to rise on this list, his team will need to win more games or he will need probably another 1,300+ yard season. Both feel very possible. Cook is a rare player.
34. DeAndre Hopkins, Wide Receiver, Arizona Cardinals | LAST YEAR: #12 |
2021 stats: 42 receptions for 572 yards, 8 TDs receiving (10 games played, due to injury)
DeAndre Hopkins has been one of the most consistent and overall best WRs in the NFL for years now, but we just saw his worst season as a pro. After an extremely successfully debut season in the desert in 2020 where he racked up over 1,400 yards receiving, Hopkins fell to injury in 2021. He was limited to just 10 games which is the least of his career to this point. While he did miss a lot of time due to injury, when he was on the field, things did feel a little different too. For the first time in his career, Hopkins didn't have a single game of over 100 yards on the season. I'm not worried. Hopkins has probably the best hands of anyone in the league and can make do with any QB, let alone a superstar in Kyler Murray. I am extremely confident in a DHOP resurgence in 2022, but it sadly will have to come after he serves a 6-game PED suspension to begin the season. Things aren't looking amazing for Hopkins right now, but when he's back on the field at full health and with a new dynamic WR2 opposite him, he and Kyler Murray will be right back where they were in 2020. While 34 is somewhat high for a guy coming off THAT season, I expect him to be fine. Trust.
33. Xavien Howard, Cornerback, Miami Dolphins | LAST YEAR: #22 |
2021 stats: 50 total tackles, 5 INTs, 16 pass deflections, 2 forced fumbles, 1 sack
Howard has always been a really good corner, but he absolutely burst onto the scene in 2020 where he had a season for the ages and warranted DPOY votes in my opinion. Howard picked off 10 passes and deflected 20! 2021 was nearly as good and showed me that Howard truly is a top 5 CB in all of football. 'X Man' gave the Dolphins their money worth on his new contract in 2021. He picked off another 5 passes which were 4th most in the NFL and he broke up another 16 which was also nearly the most in the league. Howard's claim to fame is his ball-hawking ability but also his physicality when it comes to man coverage. It is near impossible to fit the ball into a receiver when X is covering them. He is one of the few true lockdown guys in the game. You would expect a guy with this production to be a zone lurking DB, but he is the opposite of that which is a testament to his skill. Howard continues to be one of the most productive defensive players in the NFL and I'm excited to see if he can put up this astonishing numbers for a third straight season!
32. Nick Chubb, Running Back, Cleveland Browns | LAST YEAR: #56 |
2021 stats: 228 carries for 1,259 yards, 8 TDs rushing (14 games played, due to injury)
Despite both missing three games AND sharing a backfield with another elite back, Nick Chubb was able to finish second in the league in rushing yards and tally his third consecutive 1,000 yard season! Chubb is one of the most fun RBs to watch in the game. He's a straight old-school runner. They don't make them like Chubb anymore. He is your classic 1980s grind it out back who is huge and can run through anyone and is not afraid to get hit. Even his helmet looks old school! Coming out of Georgia, scouts were worried about Chubb at the next level due to his aggressive style of play and him already coming off of a torn ACL. Those knit-pickers have gotten burned as Chubb has remained healthy throughout his career and is the bulldozer the Browns have been needing for some time. With Chubb leading the way in the backfield, the Browns offense is so wide open with teams have to commit so many guys to stopping him in the backfield. If he gets to the second level and has a one on one opportunity to go all the way, he's going to get it. Unless you are Aaron Donald, I can't think of many players who would be able to stop Chubb in a one-on-one scenario in the open green. Chubb has a lot of things that could hinder his stats from being top notch, but he still is able to produce every single week. As a result of another awesome year from Chubb and in anticipation of another one coming in 2022, we see him rise 24 spots from last year! One of the biggest risers yet!
31. Joey Bosa, Edge Rusher, Los Angeles Chargers | LAST YEAR: #35 |
2021 stats: 51 total tackles, 10.5 sacks, 7 forced fumbles, 7 stuffs
Joey Bosa signed a deal last off-season that made him the highest paid non-QB in NFL history at the time. It's safe to say he lived up to that billing in his first season under the new deal. Bosa was one of the most productive and versatile edge rushers in the game in 2021. His 10.5 sacks were elite and he was causing pressures on seemingly every other down. The real eye-popping number from this past season was his SEVEN forced fumbles. That was good for second most in the league. It is extremely rare for a D-lineman to be among the top in forced fumbles. Usually LBs and Safeties dominate that regard. Not this year. We all know Bosa is one of the strongest and most powerful rushers in the game, but he amped it up another level this year. His huge sacks came to result in strip sacks nearly 70% of the time! Wild stuff. The 26 year old rusher has been one of the best at his position since he entered the league just a few years back but feels like he is really really putting it all together now. This is probably a hot take, but it would not shock me at all if Bosa is the DPOY next season. The Chargers had an elite off-season in which they added so much talent to their DL. Oh yeah, former DPOY rusher Khalil Mack was acquired. So it will be Bosa off one end, and Mack off the other. The numbers are only going to go up for Bosa with Mack added into the fold! Feast time.
The top 100 will continue within the next few days as we officially enter the top 30!
